Meet Birth of a Bird, one of Helsinki XR Center’s Developer Hub teams! Birth of a Bird is an interactive musical experience in which the user is transported into the middle of a composition.

Tell us about your project!
I am Janne Storm and I’m working on Birth of a Bird, an interactive musical experience. In it, the user is transported into the middle of the composition. They can hear the sounds moving around them. They can touch the sounds, hold them in their hand, bring them to their ear to hear new details, or bring them together to create new duets, changing the whole mood of the piece.
Right now I’m designing new methods for sound/music interaction for VR.
Tell us about your team.
The team is just me, Janne Storm. I am a musician/music producer/sound designer. Besides music I have expertise in experimental instruments and live sound interfaces. However, virtual reality is a new avenue for me.
When and why did you decide to join Helsinki XR Center’s XR developer hub?
I joined XR developer hub in autumn of 2021. Since XR is a new field for me, my main reason to join was to find like-minded people with whom I can exchange thoughts and ideas.
As a part of the XR Hub, how has your experience been so far?
I’ve had a good experience working here. The people have been super helpful and nice, and the meetups have been very inspiring.
What is the most interesting or exciting thing about extended reality?
The most interesting thing about XR for me is that it is a whole new art form, one that hasn’t been explored nearly as much as it deserves to be.
