Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Jose Velasco and my team name is Mexico VR. With my current project at XR center, I am trying to show and preserve all the forgotten worlds and traditions as well as historical heritage from my country Mexico with the use of AR and VR technologies.

Tell us about your team members!

Currently I am the only member of the team. I design and investigate, and use Unreal Engine as the main software.

What project are you currently working on?

My current project is MITLA – city of dead. Mitla is a unique site in Oaxaca, Mexico, where native and later Christian architecture meet. I want people to be able to get familiar with it with the use of VR.

When and why did you decide to join Helsinki XR Center’s XR developer hub?

I joined in February 2022 and started a Mexico VR then.

As a part of the XR Hub, how has your experience been so far?

I love being part of the hub! It’s one of the best experiences ever: the people, the staff, the equipment is awesome.

What is the most interesting or exciting thing about extended reality?

The VR world is pretty new to me. It’s cool and challenging to discover new ways to express my messages.
